Yesterday marked the 31st anniversary of the founding of the Musical Society of Nigeria. A special ceremony including a concert of varied performances by alumni of the MUSON School of Music was staged to mark the event. The night wraped up with the cutting of the anniversary cake and a Cocktail held amidst networking, fist pumping and back-pattings. A great night indeed as captured by TAIWO OLUSOLA-JOHNSON aka TOJ Concept.

THE MUSON SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
This is a body of
musicians who graduated from the MUSON Diploma School of Music through an MTN
Foundation scholarship. It is the largest conglomeration of trained musicians
in Nigeria as at today as they boast of about one hundred and eighty (180)
members.

As part of the MUSON Festival 2014, 50 entries of talented young musicians were collated earlier in April and the shortlisted 15 candidates were auditioned live in June. out of those 15, six finalists were chosen to compete at the Musiquest today. It was a showcase of musical prowess by musically inclined youths at the Shell Nigeria Hall of the MUSON Centre.

My name is Duro Ikujenyo. I used to be Fela’s pianist in the late 70s and I am going to be working with the MUSON Symphony Orchestra to score the beginning and the end of Fela’s music.How has it been like so far working with musicians from the younger generations?
Well, I was invited to be part of this while I was playing in Bogobiri. The younger generations, have always been my focus because we have to hand over to these young musicians. Director of the School of Music of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON), Mrs. Marion Akpata, has affirmed that the 18-year-old annual festival organised by the institution has come of age just like the music school she runs.
Speaking exclusively to TheNiche in her office at the institution in Onikan, Lagos, on the theme of this year’s festival, which is “Coming of Age”, she said to get to the theme, they thought mainly of the school of music.

LUXURY REPORTERS - MUSON Comes of Age
As
activities are in top gear for this year’s edition of the MUSON
festival, the festival committee has rolled out the activities lined up
for the celebration. In a statement issued by the committee, Kitoyi
Ibare-Akinsan, chairman, 2014 Festival Planning Committee says the
festival is designed to reflect the theme: “MUSON, Coming of Age” as it
will showcase the significant progress that the Musical Society of
Nigeria (MUSON) has made since it was founded in 1983.

Birthday Concert, In Honour of Louis Mbanefo (SAN)
As it prepares for its annual Festival (Oct16-26), the MUSON Centre hosts its Vice-Chairman, SIR LOUIS MBANEFO (SAN) to a Birthday Concert on SATURDAY October 4 at MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos
Time: 6pm
He is a Founding Member and Trustee of (MUSON) together with Mr. Akintola Williams, Chief Ayo Rosiji, Mrs Emanuel and others. The MUSON journey started in 1983 and from then up until 2001, he was the chairman of the Artistes Committee of the MUSON, the Committee in charge of all the concerts. He graced the MUSON stage over 100 times with his performances over a period of 18 years. He was the Vice-Chairman, MUSON for eight years and in October 1995, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors of MUSON. He served in that office for six years and was later made a Patron of the Society. In December 2013, he was once again appointed Vice-Chairman of MUSON, the position in which he is currently serving.
