THE MUSON SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

This is a body of musicians who graduated from the MUSON Diploma School of Music through an MTN Foundation scholarship. It is the largest conglomeration of trained musicians in Nigeria as at today as they boast of about one hundred and eighty (180) members.

The MUSON Diploma School produced its first set of accomplished graduates in the year 2008 and since then it has been producing some of the finest and highly talented musicians on a yearly basis.
The main objective of the association is “Furthering the cause of healthy music in the society”.
This association has staged a number of concerts either on its own or in affiliation with other groups, some of these are;
·       Appreciation Concert at the Pinefield School, Lekki. 2009
·       MUSON Alumni Concert at the Agip Hall of MUSON Center, 2010
·       Valentine Eve Concert at the Agip Hall of MUSON Center, 2014
One of the projects of the association is the Concert for Schools Series which is tagged “Concert of Stars”. The aim of this is to give needed exposure to children of Primary and secondary schools. This exposure will in turn help these young ones discern between healthy music that can enhance the growth of the nation and individuals to those that can destroy our heritage.
We have had two (2) of these educative performances at
·       Kings College Lagos, 2010 and
·       Halifield College, 2014
The various endeavours of members have really helped in developing the standard of music in our society.
v  A considerable number of Alumni now give back to the institution that made them by also teaching in the various departments of the school.
v  Nigerian Theater is a major area where music is deficient and the likes of Ayo Ajayi and Olumide Dada are leading a renaissance of music in the field with performances like SARO the Musical, Obele and the Storyteller, a play staged at the opening ceremony of the Port Harcourt World Book Festival and many others to their credit.
v  The dearth of Art Music in the society is now being revived by Kehinde Oretimehin, Paul Ogunboye and a host of other alumni.
v  Jazz music is taking on a new look under the professional auspices of members of this great association. The fusion of indigenous materials into Jazz is a creation of specialists like Imoleayo Balogun and a host of others in the association.
v  Operatic singing at its very best can be found in no other place than this association with the likes of Agatha Ibeazor (Prima Donna), Fatima Anyekema and others flying the flag.
v  The MUSON Orchestra currently has sixty percent of its members drawn from the Alumni.
v  Choirs in both contemporary and orthodox Churches have witnessed tremendous growth with the high influx of our best in these religious places of worship either as Directors, Organists or Choristers.
